About Tech Academy Minnesota
Over 20 years of hands-on STEM education for kids and teens ages 4–15 across Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Our Story
Tech Academy (formerly Computer Explorers) of Minnesota has been enriching children with technology and science classes and summer day camps for over 20 years. What began as a mission to bring hands-on technology education to young learners has grown into one of the largest STEM summer camp providers in the Upper Midwest, hosting over 300 camps annually at more than 100 locations throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin.
We believe learning should be fun, innovative, challenging, and hands-on. Our project-based technology education classes bring students together in small groups to reinforce core academic skills while learning invaluable 21st century competencies.
What We Teach
We offer 30 different classes and camps across a wide range of STEM topics:
Programming & Coding
Java, Python, Web Design, Scratch, and Mobile Game Development. From drag-and-drop coding for ages 4+ to text-based programming for teens.
Minecraft
Creative design, redstone logic, command blocks, mod development, stop-motion movies, and Java coding within Minecraft worlds.
Robotics
LEGO Mindstorms EV3, VEX Robotics, programmable floor robots, BattleBots, and RC Spybots with sensors and obstacle courses.
Engineering
Solar engineering, rollercoaster building, K'NEX structures, and creative problem-solving challenges in a team environment.
Digital Film Making
Digital film production, stop-motion animation, video editing, and storytelling. Students create their own movies from start to finish.
3D Design & More
3D printing, video game design, and additional STEM topics that inspire creativity and technical skills.
Our Approach
Every Tech Academy camp is designed around project-based learning. Students don't just listen to lectures — they build, create, code, and collaborate. Working in small groups, campers tackle real projects that reinforce academic skills while developing critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
We have classes for every level: from our youngest learners (age 4) who use drag-and-drop icon-based coding, to advanced teens writing text-based programs in Java and Python. Every student finds the right challenge at their skill level.
Community Partnerships
Tech Academy brings STEM camps directly into communities by partnering with local organizations across Minnesota and Wisconsin. Our camps are offered through:
- Community Education Programs — partnering with school districts statewide
- Parks & Recreation Departments — bringing camps to local parks and community centers
- Schools and Community Centers — hosting camps in familiar, convenient locations
This partnership model means parents can find a Tech Academy camp close to home, at a location they already know and trust. Registration is handled through each local partner organization.
